Telford took shape as a new town in the 1970s, linking together a number of villages, and is now one of the fastest growing towns in the UK, with a proud reputation as a manufacturing base. It’s a thriving, friendly place with all the amenities of modern life and easy access to beautiful Shropshire countryside.
Telford is the hub of our Challenger 2 Life Extension Project, with a state-of-the-art facility including an innovative 3D visualisation dome and heavy armour workshop.
Our specialist military bridging team is also based on-site, operating Europe’s most advanced bridge test facility and supporting BAE Systems’ work with the Ministry of Defence’s BR90 and TYRO programmes.
We employ around 300 people in Telford, who benefit from an on-site gym and enjoy regular quiz nights and sports activities. We also support many further jobs in the local economy, with over £6m spent by BAE Systems in the Midlands alone each year.
Our Telford base is at the northern edge of town, just off the A442, easily accessible by car or public transport. We provide a workplace that supports our culture, with facilities to enable our people to deliver great work in a well-resourced and creative environment.
Telford is well stocked with cultural, retail and leisure opportunities to keep you busy and entertained. There are multiplex cinemas, theatres, parks, art galleries, golf courses and shopping centres across the town, and a real community spirit flourishes alongside new developments. Although it’s a modern and forward looking place, you can trace the history of the area along old railway tracks and canal routes.
Shropshire’s glorious countryside is a short drive away and big city life, should you crave it, can be found at the end of a 30 minute train ride into Birmingham.
