Inspiring young people where it counts
We want to inspire young people from all walks of life to pursue STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects and careers. We’ll need your energy, skills and talent to help us develop next-generation ideas, deliver our complex projects and stay ahead of our competition.

Women in Craft Engineering @ BAE Systems - Apprenticeship Insight Event

About the event

Our apprenticeship insight event will introduce you to the exciting world of craft engineering; providing you with the opportunity to learn more about our company, gain hands on experience and visit our sites. You’ll also get to meet our current craft engineering apprentices, who will provide insights into their role and share their experience.

Taking place over 4 days throughout January & February 2022, places on the programme are limited. The Women in Craft Engineering programme is aimed primarily at female candidates seeking insight into a career in a Craft/Workshop environment. All applications will be reviewed, and you will receive an outcome decision via email by 17 December 2021.

Following the insight experience, you could be offered a full time position on our Advanced Craft Engineering Apprenticeship, starting in autumn 2022.

About Craft Engineering

Our Craft Engineers work in manufacturing environments using tools and machinery to safely carry out a range of tasks on complex products like submarines, surface naval ships, munitions, or aircraft.

We have many different trade disciplines to choose from including fabricator, welder, mechanical fitter, electrician, sheet metal worker, pipeworker, aircraft fitter and machinists.

If I was then offered an Apprenticeship, what would this involve?

Our Craft Engineering apprenticeships generally take three and a half years to complete. You’ll usually spend the first year in full-time training; learning core skills, before moving into a site placement within a specialist engineering team.

Coronavirus impact on BAE Systems’ UK education outreach programmes

In line with the UK Government’s developing guidance for the Covid-19 pandemic, at BAE Systems we have been reviewing our 2021 education outreach activity.

To help protect the health and wellbeing of everyone as much as possible, we have decided to offer a number of virtual education outreach activities for example our schools roadshow programme and work experience placements. Please visit the website regularly; as opportunities arise to broaden our UK Education Outreach offer, we will update the website.

Our programmes offer rewarding opportunities for students, teachers, schools and community groups to work with us, nurture interest in STEM, and provide careers advice.

Studying the right subjects is important, but real work experience can make all the difference in inspiring passion and getting you started in your career. Whether you’re at school or college, or unemployed and struggling to get into a job, if you’ve got a great attitude and bags of enthusiasm, our programmes are geared towards helping you make that first step into an exciting world of work.
