Fisher House Foundation builds comfort homes where military & veteran families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital. These homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the world. Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room, and an inviting living room. Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $500 million in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation.
What inspires your organization to do what you do? / How do you support our military?
Fisher House strives to create a “home away from home” to Veterans and their loved ones while they are undergoing a medical crisis. Fisher Houses are set up to encourage a sense of community while giving private respite to tired families. There is never a charge to stay at a Fisher House.
What is the most significant need you are seeing for military families right now?
We are thankful for any support during this pandemic. Local Fisher Houses will have various needs for support. To support specific needs, please contact a Fisher House in your area. The manager is in a better position to know what is needed at his or her house. The names, phone numbers, and email addresses for the managers is at the "Current Houses" section of our web site.
How can people get involved with/support your organization?
Be part of our community whether it be through fundraising, volunteering, or attending one of our events. We truly appreciate all of your support. Volunteering is done at the local Fisher Houses, and not through the Fisher House Foundation. We suggest you contact the manager of a Fisher House directly - either by telephone or email. The manager is in a better position to know what is needed at his or her house. The names, phone numbers, and email addresses for the managers is at the "Current Houses" section of our web site.
