Using her skills to help someone and making a difference in their life through volunteering is Cassandra’s personal mantra. She knows it not only feels good to give back, but it helps the individual feel valuable and confident and makes a difference to their family and the community. That’s why Cassandra has chosen to volunteer for Hands On Charlotte, a program of United Way of Central Carolinas that inspires, equips and mobilizes a diverse corps of volunteers to strenthen the community. The organization offers a variety of meaningful volunteer projects that benefit the citizens of Charlotte. Volunteers address the community's needs through direct service—helping homeless families, guiding at-risk youth, tutoring disadvantaged children, feeding the hungry, caring for our environment, and so much more.
Through Hands On Charlotte’s flexible on- and off-site volunteer opportunities, Cassandra is able to make a direct impact in the community. For the past eight years, she has been involved with tutoring programs in math and English for people working toward their GED, and courses increasing literacy or proficiency in English as a Second Language. Cassandra also teams up with co-workers for in-house volunteer events where they made bookmark buddies and flashcards for area children and schools. She loves the energy of colleagues volunteering together.
Cassandra is currently learning how to play the ukulele! She wants to play it on the beach in her future retirement community where she envisions teaching Yoga and English, and eating seafood and tacos.
