Project Control Foundation Scheme Apprentice - Daniel Wisdom
Daniel tells us about the experience he’s gained throughout his 5 placements so far on the apprenticeship scheme.

Getting ready for an apprenticeship

I attended St Mary’s Catholic College in Blackpool where I studies English Language and Literature, Business Studies and PE at ‘A’ level.

I am now in my fifth placement since joining the Project Control Foundation Scheme. In my previous placements I have covered a range of activities from working within a contract delivery team providing software enhancements to the Typhoon aircraft, to providing project control on a contract providing Typhoon training devices to both the UK and overseas customers.

Variety of roles

I have undertaken different roles in each of my placements including risk management, planning, estimating and management of project schedules. I am currently working with the project control manager within the support organisation to mobilise the latest support solution contract for an overseas customer within the Combat Air Support organisation.

I am in my final year at college and have found the experience very beneficial to my work. As time goes on you slowly notice each module undertaken becomes more relevant. Despite being hard work, I am nearing the end of the scheme. Completing the degree at the same time as working has definitely been worth it.

On a mission

Currently I am working as a deputy project control manager and in the short term I am looking to develop my competencies in project control with a view to progressing to be the project control manager across contracts. In the longer term, I am looking to develop into a successful project manager within the business.
