Chris Boardman

Group Managing Director, Air
Chris was appointed as Group Managing Director, Air on 1st January 2018.  In this role Chris is responsible for BAE Systems’ Air sector, leading collaboration across the group’s international capabilities. The new Air sector combines the group’s previous Military Air & Information, Saudi Arabia, Australia and Oman operations, as well as BAE Systems’ interest in the MBDA joint venture.
 
Previously Chris was Managing Director of Military Air & Information; a business of more than 13,000 highly skilled employees providing expertise in the design and manufacture of some of the worlds most advanced fixed wing military aircraft and support services. 
 
Chris is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and started his career in 1979, joining British Aerospace as a Commercial sponsored Undergraduate.  He went on to completing his apprenticeship and attain a degree in Business Studies in 1983. In a career spanning many years Chris has been active in a range of key Military Aircraft projects including Harrier, Nimrod, Tornado, Typhoon, BAE Systems’ activity on the F-35 Lighting II programme and future unmanned aircraft programmes.
 
When not at work: Chris is married with two children and two grandchildren.  He is a keen Manchester United and St Helens Rugby League supporter.
