When a pensioner dies

We appreciate that when someone dies, it is a distressing and difficult time. We hope the information here will help you.

When a pensioner dies the next of kin or legal representatives of the deceased should notify the scheme administrator so that their pension payments may be stopped and any death benefits can be processed quickly. Members with SIPS benefits should notify the Administration Centre at Capita and all other members should notify the Pensions Service Centre.  You can find their details by going to the Contact Us section of this website.

We will need to be supplied with an original copy of the Death Certificate. We will take a copy of this for our records and return it by Recorded Delivery. We will write to you to tell you whether we need any other information.

The government website also has some very useful information about who to notify and what you will need to do.
