Deferred Members

Welcome to the deferred member page of the website. A deferred member is a member who has left a pension scheme but has opted to keep their pension benefits in the scheme.
Your deferred pension will have been worked out according to the rules applicable to your benefit structure in the scheme. Find out more information in the 'Guide for Deferred members', which you can download on the right.

Please make sure you keep us up-to-date with your address. This will enable us to keep in touch with you and to make any pension or other payments in good time. Please advise us of any changes in your address by contacting the administration team. You can find their details in the Contact Us section of the website.

It is also important that the Trustees know your wishes in the event of your death, so please keep your Expression of Wish Form up to date if your personal circumstances change. The Expression of Wish Form together with other scheme specific information, such as the Scheme booklet and AVC information, can be found in the relevant page of this website.

Thinking of transferring your pension?

You do not have to retain your benefits in the BAE Systems pension schemes. You can transfer your benefits to another registered pension arrangement as long as you have the approval of the receiving scheme.

Your transfer will be the cash equivalent value of your deferred pension. That means the cash value of your benefits at the date of the quotation, taking into account guaranteed future pension increases. In addition, the value of any AVC funds will also be transferred.

The basis of this calculation is reviewed and agreed by the Trustees in line with actuarial guidance and legislation.

You can request a transfer value once a year and the value is guaranteed for three months from the date of the quotation. Any additional transfer requests will be subject to a charge.

Please be aware of pension scams. It is really important to check the facts before transferring your pension as this is an irreversible decision. Scammers use a variety of tricks to catch you out and we encourage you to visit The Pensions Regulator to raise your awareness. In addition, the Financial Conduct Authority has a list of known scams.

If you are considering transferring your pension benefits we would recommend you seek financial advice.

To request a transfer please contact the administration team. You can find their details in the Contact Us section of the website.

Consultative Committees

Consultative Committees exist to promote a better understanding of issues facing members in the pensions field. Representatives of this committee are able to support deferred members. If you would like to discuss a matter, please refer to the Consultative Committees page for further information.
