Team Tempest - Career Profile

Izzy, Project Management Apprentice,
Tempest Transformation
Izzy Gent
Izzy joined the Tempest team in August last year as a third placement in her Project Management apprenticeship and just weeks after the reveal of the Future Fighter concept model at Farnborough Airshow.

With a new team forming within BAE Systems, which currently sits at 500 strong and is set to double over the next three years, Izzy is part of a team addressing the cultural challenges the programme brings. Being part of Team Tempest means being able to deliver solutions at half the time and half the cost. The demands of the programme bring with it a need for new ways of working and it’s down to Izzy’s team to shape that desired working culture so that we can effectively lead our workforce now and in the future.

Izzy works closely with colleagues across a number of disciplines to understand the current culture (behaviours and mindset) which in turn allows the team to identify what elements need to be exploited and those that need to change. Izzy takes part in leading working group sessions to measure current behaviours. She has also played a key role in the development of a new intranet site which reflects the values and behaviours of a new culture. It pulls in stories of people who are making a real difference in their day job, and opens up new forums to exchange ideas and thoughts. Izzy has also broadened her remit, briefing customers and members of the public on the concept model and the Team Tempest construct at events and exhibitions and has also co-ordinated engagement activities for employees such as the Engineering Expo.

We have to be able to adapt and respond quickly to technological change and, to ensure we can do that means ensuring we have the right culture to embrace diverse and imaginative thinking. Izzy is at the heart of that change programme and is helping to turn ambitions into reality.
