Christian came to work on the Tempest programme inspired by an internal event around Disruptive Technologies. A compelling pitch around Tempest was delivered which described it as a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’. He knew that it was something that I wanted to be a part of and so, just a week later he’d begun a new role in the Tempest Team. A sign of the pace attached to the programme.
Christian’s role continues to change, expand, and grow, but his main focus is co-ordinating bids and demonstrations for the key technologies that could form part of a future acquisition programme. What he loves about the role is how hands he gets to be with some of the technologies that we are experimenting with.
I definitely feel like I’m part of something big, something iconic. Typhoon carries that iconic badge now and I’m proud that we’ll take our experience from it into Tempest. I’m so proud to be a part of this mission.
Christian, Bid Manager - Technology Work Stream Packages, Tempest programme
We’re taking inspiration from the commercial world, bringing gaming technology into the cockpit environment and even working with world leading SMEs and academics on the development of Virtual Reality models and devices that allow us to measure pilot heart-rate and eye-movement. Being able to actually demonstrate these technologies in a real lab environment and seeing how our engineers are solving problems and coming up with ideas in a matter of days and weeks are what makes the role so exciting and dynamic.
