Mission Computing Capabilities

Mission Computing Capability
BAE Systems provides affordable, industry-leading computing capacity, reliability, and availability in flexible, open architecture designs that are ruggedized for demanding military platforms.

For more than 40 years, BAE Systems has been designing and manufacturing cost-effective military computer and display systems that offer broad and advanced capabilities. Today, that legacy lives on, as it continues to provide state-of-the-art identification and mission computing products to meet military needs. Leveraging maximum use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware, BAE Systems' application-ready systems provide flexibility as well as hardware and software re-use for a wide variety of military platforms.

Making its mark in the field at an early stage, BAE Systems provided the computer display system for the U.S. Air Force's E-3Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) in 1972. In the years that followed, BAE Systems developed the initial computer capabilities for the 737 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft. Its support of the 737 continued when spearheading the effort to upgrade the aircraft's computer system in 2008, providing future use for the Royal Australian, Turkish, and Korean Air Forces.

In the midst of its efforts with the 737, BAE Systems pioneered the utilization of Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) for military mission computer systems. The breakthrough proved to be instrumental, as it served as the basis for a suite of rugged mission computers and operator consoles that were recently applied to the U.S. Navy's P-8A program.

Building on its legacy, BAE Systems continues to offer industry-leading expertise in developing modular, open architecture computer systems. Helping reduce development efforts with software and hardware re-use, its mission computers offer the scalability and flexibility for application on existing, new, and emerging platforms. Fully qualified to meet military, environmental and electromagnetic inference standards, BAE Systems' products provide mission computing capabilities to fixed-wing aircraft, ground vehicles and helicopters that are ruggedized for any type of environment for the missions of today and tomorrow.
