For more than three decades, Land Systems South Africa has been the globally recognized leader in the design, development and manufacture of combat and operationally-proven mine protected armored vehicles.
In parallel to its manufacturing capability, Land Systems South Africa manages an extensive nationwide customer support network for an ever-increasing and continually updated line of in-service products.
Land Systems South Africa is a South African company jointly owned by BAE Systems (75%) and the South African Black Economic Empowerment Company, DGD Technologies (2001) (Pty) Ltd (25%). It comprises three businesses; OMC, Gear Ratio and Dynamics.
OMC
OMC is a global leader in the design, development and manufacture of mine and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) protected vehicles and wheeled armoured vehicles. It covers all disciplines of the armoured vehicle spectrum including conceptualisation, design, development, manufacture, production, remanufacture and global in-service support.
OMC’s vehicles account for the majority of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and South African Police Service (SAPS) combined armoured vehicle fleets. Additionally, the company has exported over 4300 vehicles which are deployed in more than 40 countries worldwide.
The company also provides technical support, spares, training, vehicle upgrades and other services to its local and international customers, directly or through partnerships, teaming agreements and through approved dealers.
Gear Ratio
Gear Ratio’s product portfolio ranges from in-house custom-designed and manufactured solutions to standard drive-train options developed in partnership with strategically selected world-class partners.
Products include power shift transmissions, axles, transaxles, torque converters, transfer gearboxes, wheel stations and traction gears, which are used in special on-and offroad vehicles, mining and earthmoving equipment, military vehicles, traction locomotives and industrial machinery.
Dynamics
Dynamics is a highly capable defence systems business with particular expertise in turret systems. Products include Fire Directing Systems (FDS), Remotely Controlled Turrets, Weapon Stations, Fire Control Sub-systems (FCS) and related products.
Dynamics has an excellent track record in developing and providing ballistic FDS and FCS systems for ground and air platforms. The company also designs light turrets and has extensive experience in systems integration, and both land and air turret systems.
Dynamics is an existing supplier to the South African armed forces and the company’s FCS and FDS have been successfully applied to a variety of platforms, including Main Battle Tanks such as the South African Olifant Main Battle Tank and to the Rooivalk Helicopter Cannon Turret.
