Career story: Charles joined BAE Systems in May 2016 as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director on the BAE Systems plc Board of Directors.  As Chief Operating Officer, Charles drives operational performance and collaboration across the Group, including leading the Procurement Council, and contributes to the delivery of group strategy. In February 2017 the Board announced that Charles will be appointed as Chief Executive from 1 July 2017, following Ian King’s retirement.
 
Charles also leads BAE Systems’ Programmes & Support (UK) and Applied Intelligence businesses. 
 
Charles brings with him over 20 years' international experience from the oil and gas industry gained in a number of senior management positions.  Before joining BAE Systems, Charles was Chief Executive Officer of Expro Group, an oilfield services business. During a 15-year career with Schlumberger, Charles held a number of senior management positions in the Far East, Australia, France and the United States.
 
Charles holds a First Class Honours Degree in Electrical Sciences and a PhD in Engineering from Cambridge University. He later completed an MBA at Erasmus University, Rotterdam.
 
When he’s not at work: Married with two children, Charles is a keen cyclist, skier and car enthusiast.
