As a graduate in BAE Systems Applied Intelligence, you'll have the opportunity to enter one of two types of roles within our business.
 
 

Graduate consultant

 
Your role as a graduate consultant will be varied. We offer you the opportunity to work on a range of projects with different clients during your time as a graduate, depending on your skills, interests and our clients’ current business needs. Our graduate consultants are often the bridge between the business and the technical delivery teams and operate across the full length of the project lifecycle; from helping to identify the problem and defining the solution, to implementing and managing the change required for our clients to reach their goals.
 
We offer a number of opportunities as a graduate consultant working across our various business divisions these include:
 
Business consultant
As a business consultant your role may involve elements of defining a client’s strategy, developing their future operating model and/or defining and supporting the client’s organisational change.
 
Business analyst
As a business analyst you will work with our clients as part of a team to identify business issues or areas for improvement, capture requirements, develop and improve processes and support the development of business cases for future change.
 
Cyber security consultant
As a cyber security consultant you may be involved in providing independent cyber security advice, undertaking research, improving client technology and providing security expertise.
 
Data analyst
As a data analyst, you will work on client projects to undertake research, collect and analyse data. You will advise clients on how to extract the business benefit from data to inform their business processes and future strategies.
 
Project management officer
As a project management officer you will provide support to project managers, programme managers and delivery managers through defining and maintaining the standards of project management. You will be responsible for providing guidance around best practice documentation and providing metrics in relation to project management processes and execution.
 
Bid manager
As a bid manager you will be responsible for the management and production of competitive bid responses to win client work. This role involves working with a range of colleagues at all levels in our organisation to develop our proposals for the delivery key pieces of work for our clients.
 
Operations manager
As an operations manager your role will be to make resourcing decisions to ensure that we deploy the right skills to the right projects for the most effective delivery on our projects.
 
Consulting graduate programme
As a graduate consultant you will join our graduate development programme and spend your first two years with the company completing a structured set of training modules aligned to our competency framework. This ensures that you develop the breadth of skills expected of our consultants, before you select your specialism for your career. Aligned to this development programme is our role rotation process, where you rotate around at least 3 different project roles as a graduate, providing you with experience of delivering on a breadth of different consulting projects, before choosing your specialism.
 
 

technical Delivery graduate

 
The role of a technical delivery graduate is to undertake a mix of technical challenges, business problem solving and client liaison. Our technical delivery graduates deal with the “how”; they are technically minded and decide how best to implement solutions to meet our clients' needs.
 
We have a range of roles that you could undertake as a technical delivery graduate across our various business divisions:
 
Software developer
As a new graduate, we expect you to be ready to tackle (and enjoy!) programming tasks from the outset, but we will take the time to mentor you through smaller packages of work and enhancements to our product range. You will work primarily in java, however we always look for the best framework for the job; some of our developments use c# .net, c++ and html5 technologies. We will however consider those with any programming language and a desire to learn.

We have a strong team of developers, working in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, where they work on projects range from pure R&D to major new product developments and enhancements. You’ll be involved in all parts of the software lifecycle, and as you gain experience, your responsibilities will widen.  We’ll need you to be a strong communicator, able to pitch new ideas to clients and explain your work to non-technical people.
 
Tester
Testers play a crucial role in the delivery of projects and their involvement starts at the requirements analysis stage. Initially, testing roles are likely to include defining and creating test cases from functional and technical specifications, executing test scripts and reporting the results clearly.
 
Data analyst
As a data analyst, you will be involved in projects that deliver significant business benefits for our clients in a broad range of sectors. All our projects entail working in a team overseen by our market and product experts, and you are likely to get client exposure early on, working on customised solutions across our entire client base, and across a range of internal projects.
 
Electronic Engineer
Our Electronic Engineers design and develop analogue and digital electronics, VHDL and embedded/low level software for a wide range of electronic systems. Depending on your background and aspirations. We expect you to take responsibility and tackle a number of different development tasks in different disciplines.
 
Working under guidance from our expert engineersyou could implement complex signal-processing algorithms in VHDL, debug the RF chain on a software radio, develop embedded software to run on low power microcontrollers or develop ruggedised devices for challenging environments.
 
Cyber security technical specialist
As a cyber technical specialist you will support the research and development of unprecedented cyber capabilities.

This is an opportunity to join a team within software development, research, testing and architecture or a team of penetration testers,incident responders and threat analysts investigating security of critical systems, working to provide protective cyber services for our clients.

If you have a strong desire to work in and have a good understanding of the cyber security domain, strong technical abilities in programming or research, a willingness to learn and good communication skills then there could be a role for you.
 
Project Management officer

Delivery graduate programme
As a technical delivery graduate, you will join our graduate development programme, spending your first two years with the company completing a structured set of training modules, aligned to our competency framework.
 
To ensure that you develop the breadth of skills expected of our technical consultants, before you select your specialism for your career. You will rotate around at least 3 different project roles as a graduate, providing you with experience of delivering on a breadth of different technical projects, before choosing your specialism.

Our Recruitment process


Unlike some companies, we don’t run assessment centres, or require you to complete any online numerical tests. We assess each application individually, and make an informed decision on which role is right for you as you move through the interview process. What we do ask for is a minimum of 300 UCAS points, alongside (or on track to achieve) a 2:1 bachelors degree within a science, technology, engineering or mathematics discipline.

Your development


Your development is important to us. From day one, you’ll get your own personal career manager/mentor, who will offer guidance and support throughout your career. For your first 18 months, you will work through our Graduate Development Programme, which will help develop you towards a more specialised career path.

Throughout your time as a Graduate, there will be plenty of opportunities for structured development, a range of projects to get involved in, and the opportunity to attend regular events. Unlike some graduate schemes we don’t have rigid role rotations. Though you are likely to get involved in several different projects to ensure your skills are developed and enhanced during your time as a Graduate.
