KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — BAE Systems today announced that it has been awarded the ‘Cyber Security Outreach Provider of the Year’ by CyberSecurity Malaysia, the country’s cyber security specialist agency.  Announced at Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference & Exhibition 2015 (CSM-ACE), this follows being awarded Cyber Security Company of the Year in 2014 by CyberSecurity Malaysia.

BAE Systems received the award in recognition of the company’s commitment to cyber security in Malaysia and for playing a key role in improving the understanding and importance of information security amongst citizens and businesses in the Country.

BAE Systems has a strong presence in Malaysia with over 275 employees in its Global Engineering Centre, located in Kuala Lumpur, which focuses on local delivery and global support of the company’s cyber and financial crime detection services.

Commenting on the award, Barry Johnson, Malaysia Country Manager for BAE Systems Applied Intelligence in Kuala Lumpur, said, “We are deeply honoured to receive an award from CyberSecurity Malaysia for the second year running. This recognition reflects the endorsement of BAE Systems Applied Intelligence as the leading cyber security and digital criminality services provider in Malaysia. We are dedicated to the development of the cyber security sector and we look forward to continue to enhance and transfer our global capabilities to Malaysia.”

Displaying further commitment to cyber security in Malaysia, BAE Systems was pleased to sponsor the Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference & Exhibition 2015 (CSM-ACE), which ran from 6 to 10 September and coincided with the final round of the CYBERSAFETM Challenge 2015.

CSM-ACE is a public-private-partnership annual knowledge sharing platform that gathers cyber security industry experts and community to exchange ideas on security management, policy and technology. Themed "Bridging the World – Go Cyber Green" this year, the CSM-ACE provided an opportunity for information security professionals to meet and discuss the implications of cyber security and cross border initiatives.

As strategic partner and sponsor, BAE Systems Applied Intelligence provided its expertise at a forum session entitled “A Real Rain – Cloud Technology”, focussing on the challenges, opportunities and latest developments in cyber security and cloud technology.

“We believe that our role in supporting the industry through these events encourages creative and critical thinking among its participants. The events focused on global information security challenges and solutions. Ultimately, we want to help strengthen the understanding and awareness among users, converting disengaged internet users to engaged, smart, and ethical ones,” said Barry Johnson, Malaysia Country Manager at BAE Systems Applied Intelligence.

The CYBERSAFETM Challenge, an annual awareness programme and competition under the National ICT Security Discourse (NICTSeD) arranged by CyberSecurity Malaysia, has been taking place in Malaysia during August and BAE Systems has been a key sponsor of the Challenge

As part of its sponsorship, Fadzril Azhar, Principal Consultant, Cyber Security and Hareen Siriwardeen, Service Delivery Manager, Cyber Security for BAE Systems, conducted a workshop on business communication skills as well as cyber threat landscape, where they shared industry experience with teachers and students, as well as providing one-to-one coaching for the teams participating in the finals. Representatives from the company were on the panel of judges for both the semi-finals in August and the final which was held on 8 September to coincide with CSM-ACE.

”We recognise the role that secondary school teachers and students play in ICT and information security awareness. Being part of this national-level ICT Security Discourse not only opens up a world of information to secondary school students, but it also helps them understand about information security, one of our generation’s most important and inclusive issues. CYBERSAFETM Challenge 2015 has delivered on its potential to ensure an ongoing discourse on the topic and creating large-scale awareness.  We would like to congratulate SMK Sri Iskandar School, rep of Malacca on their success in this year’s competition,” said Johnson.
