Rewarding youngsters in our local community

Evie, Latisha and Rebecca celebrate their win at the awards evening
Celebrating young people’s efforts, achievements and contributions to the community at the Humberside Police Lifestyle Awards.

As part of our commitment to engaging with the local community, earlier this year we agreed to sponsor the Humberside Police Lifestyle Challenge.

About Lifestyle Challenge

Lifestyle Challenge is a Humberside Police initiative designed to increase the amount of positive contact between Humberside Police and the young people of the area.  Young people are encouraged to become involved in community projects during the long summer holidays.  The overall aim is to provide a refreshing and challenging alternative to summer boredom, which will not only occupy their time but also benefit the youngsters, themselves and their communities.
Over 4000 ‘Lifestylers’ got involved in community projects this year, whether they were supporting the environment, neighbours, the disabled, elderly, the young, promoting healthy eating, sporting activities and much more.

A proud moment

One team approached us, named ‘The 3 Wonders of the World’ (who asked us if we could donate some green paint for one of their projects to raise funds for a litter bin for the village) and made it through to the finalist awards which took place earlier this month. There were 314 finalists in total and the team managed to scoop a trip to Alton Towers, an achievement they should be very proud of.

Projects in action

As part of the sponsorship, we also got the opportunity to go out and see some of the projects in action over the summer, one of which involved Evie, Latisha and Rebecca from Wilberfoss (a village in the county) . As part of a team they spent their summer brightening up a tennis area of their local playing fields with a huge wall mural celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics and Wilberfoss.  They also created a wildlife garden and much more bringing the whole community together to make their Lifestyle project a reality. Evie, Latisha and Rebecca’s team were in fact crowned Lifestyle champions and managed to win a holiday of a lifetime to Florida!

A celebration of achievements

The entire Lifestyle Awards evening was a celebration of the achievements of young people’s endeavours, as the top 314 Lifestylers from across the Humberside Police area received a whole host of prizes in recognition of their voluntary community projects over the summer break; ranging from day trips to Alton Towers, Silverstone, to team building adventure experiences in Wales and France, to a holiday in Florida; all made possible due to the generous support of the many sponsors like us, to the Humberside Police Lifestyle project.

Proud to be a sponsor

Rebecca Brothers, our Community advisor at Brough said, “BAE Systems are extremely proud to sponsor a project that brings so much benefit to the local community. To be part of something that changes lives in such a positive way and to see the hard work, commitment and enthusiasm of young people acknowledged and rewarded in such a way is a delight. Everyone involved in the Lifestyle Challenge should be proud of what they have achieved. I do hope the project continues to bring benefit to not only the community but to the individuals involved in future years. This really is a great success story.”
