From tractor to Typhoon

Sam the Farming Apprentice
Sam Farmer's family has been in farming for generations. Farmer by name - farmer by nature.

Now 17-year-old Sam has broken the mould. Sam is one of 16 trainees in this year's cohort of Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Mechanics to sign up for training at Robin Hood Airport training facility in Doncaster.

Sam will soon be swapping tweaking his tractor for training to work on a Typhoon. He and his fellow trainees have all opted to 'earn while they learn' as they begin a two year course at our Aircraft Maintenance Academy which will give them unique experience and a National Vocational Qualification to set them up for life. The course will include 12 months of training at an RAF base working hand-in-hand with the RAF, helping support their fleet of fast-jets.

Trainees who have been through the training have already moved on to work at RAF bases at Coningsby and Marham.
