Nearly 100 employees from BAE Systems took part in a 25 mile Yorkshire Three Peaks event to raise money for Help for Heroes, the charity that supports those with injuries and illnesses sustained while serving in the British Armed Forces, and their families.

The event raised just over £5,000, which was handed over to the charity at BAE Systems facility in Glascoed, South Wales. Handing over the cheque was Jennifer Osbaldestin, Managing Director of BAE Systems Land (UK), who said:

“As a proud supplier to the British Armed Forces, we are very pleased to have raised this money for Help for Heroes. It was a tough trek through the Three Peaks of Yorkshire, but every uphill step was worthwhile to help a cause like this. Also, we estimate that all of us together burned off more than 360,000 calories – so we fully earned the cakes afterwards!”

This was BAE Systems’ 29th annual Three Peaks event with others having taken part in North Wales, the Lake District, and the Brecon Beacons. For the 30th event in 2017, the company will return again to Yorkshire where the first it took place back in 1986.

Receiving the money, Help for Heroes Regional Manager, Rhys Edwards,  said, “Help for Heroes is hugely grateful to BAE Systems for the fantastic support they have given us in completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge. We rely heavily on the generous donations raised through events such as this, and all those who supported this event will be directly helping to rebuild lives.  We’d like to thank everyone who took part for their amazing contribution to supporting our wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women – and we hope you enjoyed the experience!”

As well as from Glascoed, employees who take part come from offices around the UK, including Telford and Radway Green in the Midlands, Washington in the North East and Barrow in the North West.

As one of its events to help BAE Systems mark Mental Health Awareness week, Rhys gave a presentation to employees in Glascoed on the work that Help for Heroes does to help ex-servicemen and women who are struggling with their mental health.
