Bradley Industrial Base Shutdown

The Bradley Industrial Base is a one-of-a-kind national defense asset.

We have to maintain the core industrial base that we need. The skills that are essential to our ability to maintain a strong national defense.

The honorable Leon Panetta, Former Secretary of Defense, February 6, 2013

With its primary hub of operations located at BAE Systems’ lean manufacturing facility in York, Pennsylvania, the Bradley Industrial Base consists of a network of more than 586 large, medium and small businesses working with the U.S. government to maintain the readiness of four of the five key vehicles used by the U.S. Army’s Armored Brigade Combat Teams (ABCTs). The Bradley Industrial Base and its facilities maintain the only manufacturing capability designed with the flexibility and unique skill set required to manufacture and maintain combat platforms for the ABCTs.

The U.S. Army’s current funding plan calls for the Bradley Industrial Base to shut down for at least three years starting in 2014 resulting in serious consequences for the Army, the combat vehicle industrial base and the taxpayer.
