Congressman Hanna takes a ride in the F-35 cockpit demo
Endicott Employees Attend F-35 Cockpit Demo

A small group of employees in Endicott, N.Y. recently attended an F-35 Lightning II Cockpit Demonstration at Lockheed Martin’s Mission Systems and Training facility, where they were invited to take a turn in the pilot’s seat of the cockpit demo. Our employees were given a warm welcome by Dan Spoor, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin Aviation Systems, who hosted the event, and New York Congressmen Richard Hanna and Tom Reed who spoke about the great work being done on the program.

“There is so much pride wrapped up in being part of the mission of the Joint Strike Fighter, and in being a member of the prime team for this extraordinary aircraft,” said Jim Garceau, vice president and deputy general manager of Communications and Control Solutions at BAE Systems. “Each time our Lockheed Martin teammates invite us to participate in an event like this, it underscores the importance of this unprecedented program to national defense.”

Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Lightning II is a leading-edge, fifth generation stealth fighter, and the largest procurement ever by the U.S. military. From the initial award contract in 2001, we have been a Lockheed Martin teammate and tier-1 supplier to the Joint Strike Fighter, providing the Active Inceptor System and Vehicle Management System for the platform.

The Active Inceptors are the pilot interface in the cockpit, providing tactile feedback through the stick and throttle to the flight crew. The Vehicle Management System includes our Fly-by-Wire vehicle management computer and software, which are responsible for the air vehicle flight control, propulsion system control (outer loop), and the utility control functions for all operational phases of the aircraft. These systems are supported from our Endicott, N.Y.; Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and Rochester, UK sites.
