The world of work

BAE Systems
Inspiring young people through our work experience programme.

Our award winning work experience programme is designed to make the world of work more meaningful and to inspire young people. The programme offers places to students between 14-16 and 16-19 years of age.

Most of our sites offer work experience; our Warton and Yeovil sites recently hosted visits from local schools.

At Warton

Students from various schools across the North West including Bolton School for Girls, Lytham St Annes Technology & Performing Arts College, Ashton Sixth Form and Carrhill High School spent their time with us exploring the career opportunities available in our engineering and business functions. They visited teams including Engineering Development & Design, Concept Demonstration and Typhoon Avionics ending the week with a presentation on their experience.

At Yeovil

Students, Ryan Durose, Matthew Griffin and Lauren Trotman from Stanchester Academy, joined our Yeovil Office for their work experience.

During their time at Yeovil the students took part in numerous demonstrations of the exciting work that takes place in the depths of Somerset. From the The embedded asset does not exist:

to the Defence Human Capability Science and Technology Centre (DHCSTC) and the unmanned trains on the London Underground. They were also shown how the different functions in the business support the projects including Finance, Commercial, Quality and Communications.

How to apply for future placements

Students can apply for a  future work experience placement through their school co-ordinator on our education website where they can complete a personal profile telling us their future career aspirations which helps us to place them in the business.

There are further cohorts scheduled for Brough, Samlesbury and Warton at the beginning of July. However, due to high demand these placements are now full.
