Inspiring the next generation of engineers

More than 70 students and staff rise to a challenge.

Last week we sponsored an event that saw more than 70 students and staff from Downham Market High School, Terrington St Clement’s High School and the Iceni Academy in Methwold attended Downham Rotary Club’s third annual Technology Day.

The students were set the task of building a weight-driven vehicle within a set timeframe and then had to demonstrate their vehicles in front of a panel of judges. The judges assessed not just on how each vehicle performed, but also on how the teams had approached the task and worked together to solve the problem.

Euan Lucie-Smith, a Tornado Engineer, based at RAF Marham represented the Company at the event and presented the awards to the winners. Euan said: “It was great to see the many variations of vehicle that the students designed and built. Let’s hope it inspires them to have a future in engineering.”
