With the aim of strengthening its home market in Saudi Arabia, supporting capability and technology transfer to the Kingdom, and raising the level of Saudi engineering expertise, BAE Systems Saudi Arabia held its second Engineering Conference with the theme "Our strategy and our role as Engineers." at the Company's Riyadh headquarters on Monday 5 March 2012.

Engineer Abdullah Al-Kanhal, VP of Engineering and Assurance, BAE Systems and Chairman of the Executive Council for Cooperation with Universities and Research Centres, said: "This event comes after the success of our first conference - Engineering, the Future of home markets - which was held last year."

He added, “The conference was attended by the Company's senior engineers from across the Engineering Function, from within Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. It recognized that advancing local engineering capabilities in the Kingdom - as one of BAE Systems’ Home Markets – is one of the most important strategies that the Company follows: local capacity building in the field of engineering."

Monther Tayeb, Director of Communication said: "The Company took it upon itself to transfer engineering and industrial expertise to the Kingdom, and provide training and capacity building to Saudi employees across BAE Systems Saudi Arabia.”

“We have signed several agreements with a number of universities in the Kingdom, such as sponsoring 30 students in the Faculty of Engineering at King Saud University, the BAE Systems Saudi Arabia Award for Distinguished Engineering Projects in co-operations with Prince Sultan Institute for Advanced Technology Research and participating in the Industrial Cooperation Programme with King Abdullah University for Science and Technology."

“Hopefully the conferences not only provided an opportunity to discuss ways of developing the home market and but also looked at how we can fulfill our commitments by developing local engineering capabilities and talent" said Monther.
