Corporate Responsibility

In keeping with the BAE Systems corporate message, we want to be recognised as a company committed to developing a culture of Total Performance, focusing not just on what we do but also how we do it.

By concentrating on Safety, Health & Environment, Diversity & Inclusion, Business Conduct and Community and Education we can make a difference to the lives of our workforce, their families and the communities in which they reside.
Communities
Naval Ships recognises that many employees reside in and around its local communities, and that supporting local groups and organisations can result in stronger relations with the workforce and their families. The business supports volunteering and fundraising activities, increasing job satisfaction and promoting a positive working environment. Our goal is to support charities and organisations that make a positive contribution to the communities in which we work.
Education
BAE Systems is committed to education and skills development throughout its global business. At Naval Ships, educational liaison is carried out through structured engagement with local schools, colleges and universities through the 2020 programme and initiatives including STEM, First and the Big Bang. Furthermore, Naval Ships is committed to supporting the company Graduate and Apprentice programmes.
Additionally, a number of local schools have been identified and prioritised depending on their proximity to each Naval Ships site. The business supports training staff as STEM ambassadors to ensure they understand the key business messages for engaging with local educational establishments.
Business Conduct
Our Code of Conduct sets out the principles and standards we require all our employees to adopt, which we believe will protect and enhance our corporate reputation. Naval Ships is committed to raising its awareness and proactively demonstrating ethical standards.
Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)
Naval Ships aims to conduct business in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Delivering world class SHE performance through positive leadership and team work is our number one priority. We are committed to ensuring the safety, health and welfare of our employees while continually reducing the environmental impact of our activities and ensuring the sustainability of our operations. Our primary goal is to protect the people and communities we work with, and care for the environment through a commitment to good practice.
Reducing our use of resources and the waste we produce will improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and help us to comply with changing regulatory requirements. This includes greenhouse gas emissions, material and solvent usage, waste products and emissions to the atmosphere.
Diversity and Inclusion
The aim of the Naval Ships Diversity and Inclusion agenda is to create an environment in which the business can maximise the potential of all our employees and appreciate the diversity of thought that such a diverse workforce brings. There is clear evidence that creating this environment will attract and retain top talent and will improve productivity, creativity and innovation among the workforce.
We will develop and implement a balanced approach towards Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) by delivering a programme that meets with the business need, scoping the diverse range of those that make up the communities surrounding our sites.
