Indirect Fire Precision Attack
The IFPA (Indirect Fire Precision Attack) Assessment Phase 2 (AP2) and Loitering Munition Capability Demonstration form part of a programme designed to support the incremental procurement of an IFPA capability for the British Army out to 2020.
Overview
- The assessment phase will be carried out by a joint BAE Systems / MoD team partnering with some of the UK's leading defence companies, including MBDA UK, QinetiQ and HVR Consulting Services.
- For the Loitering Munition Capability Demonstration (LM CD) subcontract, a representative loitering munition system is being delivered by the Battlefield Loitering Artillery Directed Effect (BLADE) team, led by Ultra Electronics.
Key Facts/Figures
- The earlier IFPA Assessment Phase (AP1) was completed in late 2006. The joint team between BAE Systems and MoD has been retained for AP2. The AP1 contract was worth £16million and ran for four and a half years, from 2002 to 2006.
- The contract was awarded to BAE Systems' Strategic Capability Solutions team to manage the second assessment phase and the LM CD is worth £30 million.
- The LM CD contract is expected to run for up to two years
- The acquisition of an IFPA capability is through an incremental procurement by the UK MoD. This is potentially worth many millions of pounds over the next fifteen years.
Performance
- The assessment phase will assess and review maturing munitions and technologies and associated performance, time and cost envelopes against future defence planning assumptions.
Background
- Successful completion of the second assessment phase and the LM capability demonstration will inform future developments for the IFPA capability.
- The BAE Systems-led industrial team - working as part of a JIPT with MoD - are effectively acting as a 'customer friend', working with their colleagues in the MoD to ensure the programme continues to meet key criteria such as value for money and to ensure ultimately that the frontline soldier is getting the right kit at the right price.
