The ability to use the ionosphere as a ‘mirror’ for radio waves to enable long distance communications is strongly influenced by ‘space weather’. The season, time of day, solar cycle and, most notably, solar disturbances impact on the characteristics of the ionosphere.
The ATC provides a unique software package enabling the reliable and accurate prediction of ionospheric conditions. This information assists in the autonomous selection of the optimal frequency to ensure a reliable and continuous communications link.
