We have experience in the modelling and simulation of on-board degaussing systems using either commerical computational electromagnetic solvers or bespoke in-house codes such as finite-element and finite-difference time-domain.
In addition to static magnetic analyses, the problems associated with transients caused by degaussing power supply failure have also been tackled.
The types of problem we have looked at were field levels inside bulkheads and compartments due to proximity to degaussing coils. Other allied simulations have been of the field penetration into ship structure from three-phase power cables. The image (right) shows the magnetic field around a three-phase power cable computed by a two-dimensional low frequency finite difference solver. Additional work has been directed to computing field levels inside ship structures from collapsing magnetic fields generated by degaussing power supply failure.
