The RAD6000® computer is a radiation-hardened, low-cost, high-performance computer that provides powerful and flexible solutions for avionics, launch, and space applications.

This 32-bit, reduced-instruction-set computer is used by the defense, military, and scientific communities. The RAD6000 computer has been the single control and data computer used on the Mars Pathfinder satellite lander through flight, landing, and on-Mars functions. Other notable programs include the Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity, and other spacecraft including Coriolis, Messenger, Swift, and Stereo. Nearly 200 RAD6000 computers are now in orbit on nearly 100 satellites.

The Software User’s Guide describes the system software for BAE Systems’ RAD6000-based processor boards, and the development tools available to write application-level software for those boards. The system software includes Wind River Systems’ VxWorks operating system, and one or more board support packages. These include startup code, device drivers, and other customizations targeted for a particular board. The software development system is the AdaMULTI tool set from Green Hills Software.
