MOJAVE, California — BAE Systems' Mojave facility has been rated as achieving Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 3 in several key business processes. CMMI is a process improvement approach developed collaboratively by industry, government, and the Software Engineering Institute (SEI).
BAE Systems employees at Mojave implemented CMMI Level 3 practices within three process areas: project planning, process and product quality assurance, and configuration management.
"Our successful CMMI appraisal demonstrates that BAE Systems in Mojave is committed to excellence," said Dan Ferns, director of Mission Success and Product Assurance. "This will assure customers that our business can consistently meet their expectations and strengthen our position in the very competitive aerospace industry."
The appraisal was led by the Systems and Software Consortium Inc. (SSCI), a SEI-authorized appraisal organization. SSCI appraisers spent a week reviewing Mojave processes and also interviewed software practitioners and company management.
The Mojave site joins other BAE Systems' facilities, which have achieved CMMI Level 3 certification: Nashua, N.H.; Yonkers, N.Y.; Manassas and McLean, Va.; Pomona, Calif.; and Lansdale, Pa. Additionally, the following BAE Systems' facilities have achieved CMMI Level 5 certification: San Diego and Santa Clara, Calif.; Wayne, N.J.; Reston, Va.; and Minneapolis, Minn.
"CMMI has been an enterprise-wide initiative to drive the company's engineering and program management capability to a world-class maturity level by delivering high-performance in the execution of development programs," said Bob Stow, vice president of Engineering for BAE Systems Inc.
BAE Systems' Mojave facility provides a diverse range of products and services to the military and commercial aviation communities. The site's 250 employees perform design engineering and product development, aircraft modification and maintenance, and FAA avionics flight test and certification.
