Tuesday 8 September
0930: RG35
BAE Systems will be launching and unveiling the first of a new class of vehicle at DSEi. Manufactured in South Africa, it combines the high levels of survivability of the RG31 Mine Protected Vehicle with much of the tactical capability of a modern combat vehicle. The new platform incorporates a simple but effective one-person turret, which gives an excellent mix of protection and situational awareness.
1030: Anti-piracy
Piracy is a growing international problem. Today's pirates are increasingly bold, well organised, use modern technology and range even further from shore in their search for targets. They demand and frequently receive multi-million dollar ransoms for the release of hijacked vessels and their crews. Maritime organisations do not welcome the idea of armed guards or escort ships, believing that these might increase the danger to a ship's crew. With pirate's tactics continually evolving, often in response to anti-piracy measures, it is likely that the best option will be a layered approach to security, using a range of non-lethal methods. BAE Systems can offer a number of solutions.
1330: CV 90
The CV90 infantry vehicle has evolved, with each successive customer, into a highly-protected, very reliable and fully-digital vehicle which is now in service with six nations. This briefing looks forward to the UK MoD's key FRES SV programme, for which the CV90 chassis, combined with an all-new turret and weapon system, forms the basis of BAE Systems' bid.
Wednesday 9 September
0930: Q-Sight
The Q-sight™ helmet-mounted display is a revolutionary, highly adaptable product to enhance the situational awareness of aviators in any situation, including degraded visual environments such as brown-outs. Lightweight and low cost, Q-sight improves situation awareness and safety, providing pilots with a wider field of view, enabling them to keep their head-up and eyes out of the cockpit while undertaking missions.
1020: Driver's vision enhancer family of systems
The Driver's Vision Enhancer Family of Systems (DVE-FOS) is a system of sensors which provides 24-hour all-weather visibility to operators of combat and logistics vehicles. The family of systems includes four variants that are compatible with 17 configurations of US Army and US Marine Corps vehicles, covering most wheeled and combat platforms in the current US inventory.
1330: Integrated autonomy
Unmanned autonomous systems offer enormous potential benefits to battlefield commanders, with their ability to undertake dangerous reconnaissance duties without exposing soldiers to harm. Integrating these unmanned systems into a manned battlespace presents difficulties, including mission deconfliction, which involves ensuring that unmanned platforms are performing as tasked and do not interfere with manned operations.
1430: BAe 146M military transport
The BAe 146M will be marketed to Air Forces which operate ageing turboprop and jet airliners for transport and communications tasks. There are around 1500 such aircraft in service worldwide. Many are now more than 40 years old. The BAe 146M has the potential to undertake specialist multi-role concepts such as combined passenger and freight operations, paratroop transport and medical evacuation, among others.
Thursday 10 September
0930: BvS10 MkII
Manufacture of the go-anywhere BvS10 all-terrain vehicle (known as Viking is UK service) has now ceased - because an improved version has received production go-ahead for a launch customer. This briefing highlights the new variant, which features much improved mine protection to both front and rear cabs and many other changes including, a more powerful engine, to provide greater tactical flexibility.
1030: Talisman L
Talisman L, a 50kg unmanned autonomous submarine, has been developed to increase the protection available to world shipping and help combat the threat of explosive mines hidden in shallow coastal waters such as ports and harbours. Using high-definition forward and sideways looking sonar, as well as a host of multi-view cameras., it has a high degree of manoeuvrability and is able to operate at depths of up to 100 metres for up to 12 hours.
1330: Naval guns
BAE Systems is the largest manufacturer of naval guns in the world. With an increasing number of commentators suggesting that the time is right for a resurgence of interest in naval guns, this briefing discusses the systems and options available.
