BAE Systems welcomed today’s contract signing between the UK Ministry of Defence and new Joint Venture (JV), BVT Surface Fleet (BVT), on behalf of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance.
The contract for two new 65,000 tonne Aircraft Carriers will deliver the largest ships to enter service with the Royal Navy – HMS Queen Elizabeth II and Prince of Wales.
Chief Executive Mike Turner comments: “This is an important milestone in the long term sustainability of the UK naval sector and a proud moment for the 7,000 employees of BVT Surface Fleet.”
The signing took place on HMS Ark Royal in Portsmouth and there was an event in Glasgow, both locations where BVT has significant operations.
BVT was launched on 1 July 2008.
Members of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance are Babcock, BAE Systems, BVT Surface Fleet, Thales UK and the UK Ministry of Defence.
