PRINCESS ROYAL VIEWS LATEST NAVAL TRAINING SYSTEM AT HM NAVAL BASE IN DEVONPORT
HRH The Princess Royal viewed the Royal Navy’s latest warfare operator training system developed by BAE Systems during a visit to HM Naval Base Devonport in Plymouth, Devon on Wednesday 9th April.
The Maritime Composite Training System (MCTS) will deliver a significant enhancement to Royal Navy warfare operator training from early 2009. The system has been developed by BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies in its role as prime contractor, in partnership with its sub-contractors. BAE Systems was awarded the £100 million contract from the Ministry of Defence - Maritime Training Systems in December 2005 to support warfare training for the first 10 years of MCTS’ life. MCTS is located at two sites; the Maritime Warfare School at HMS Collingwood in Fareham, Hampshire, and at HM Naval Base Devonport.
MCTS will provide training for the Type 45 and current in service platforms through an integrated set of training media and purpose built facilities. The system supports increased drafting flexibility, more cost effective training and the ability to support training in the base port.
Guy Griffiths, Managing Director, BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies said ”We are delighted to be involved in this important Royal Navy programme and have used our experience in maritime operations to develop a cutting-edge, versatile training environment for Royal Navy personnel to develop and practice their skills.”
