BAE SYSTEMS BOOSTED NEW HAMPSHIRE ECONOMY BY $630 MILLION DURING 2007

05 Feb 2008 | Ref. 042/2008

NASHUA, New Hampshire — BAE Systems generated a positive economic impact of more than $630 million in the state of New Hampshire during 2007. The financial thrust reflects $480 million disbursed in payroll to its nearly 4,700 employees who work in New Hampshire and nearly $150 million awarded for subcontracts and purchase orders to businesses in the state.

BAE Systems’ direct economic impact within New Hampshire was up $59 million from 2006, when the company had a $429 million payroll and awarded $142 million in subcontracts and purchase orders.

“BAE Systems and its employees have a long history of placing the needs of our customer, country, and communities first to protect those who protect us,” said Lu Goncalves-Getty, community relations manager for the company. “BAE Systems believes in giving back to the communities where we live and work. That commitment combined with local spending and payroll, make a significant contribution to the economic health and well-being of New Hampshire.”

In addition to the local impact of the BAE Systems payroll and subcontracts, the company and its employees contributed $3.2 million in cash and in-kind services to area civic, charitable, and educational institutions during 2007.

Employee contributions to New Hampshire charities included more than $1.6 million to support New Hampshire-based United Way campaigns and other employee-specified charities. The largest single corporate contribution was $200,000 to support the University of New Hampshire’s Engineering School — part of a five-year, $1 million capital pledge.

BAE Systems employees volunteer their time in the local community for many organizations. In 2007, more than 6,000 hours were logged to support the annual Granite State Regional FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics competition in Manchester. FIRST represents a partnership of teachers, administrators, parents, and volunteers whose combined efforts help to give the world its future engineers, scientists, technicians, inventors, and business people.  In January, BAE Systems became a “strategic partner” of FIRST and the largest corporate contributor to the FIRST Robotics Competition.
