BAE SYSTEMS RECEIVES CONTRACT FROM U.S. MARINE CORPS FOR 16 RG33 6X6 AMBULANCE VEHICLES

15 Jun 2007 | Ref. 196/2007

SANTA CLARA, California - BAE Systems has received a $17.1 million contract award from the U.S. Marine Corps to produce and deliver 16 RG33 6X6 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Ambulance Vehicles.

"This highly mobile and survivable vehicle will allow Marines and soldiers to receive immediate medical care in a combat environment," said Matt Riddle, Wheeled Vehicle Programs vice president for BAE Systems.  The ambulance vehicle is part of the RG33 series that features a V-shaped hull that can withstand mine and IED blasts and provides more volume under armor than any other mine-protected vehicle.

The RG33L MRAP ambulance vehicle can hold four litter patients or six ambulatory patients or a combination of the two via a unique litter lift system, spiraling out developmental work on medical mission package technology into the MRAP program. The vehicle also provides space for a medic work station and key medical equipment.

Work will be performed at BAE Systems and partner facilities in Santa Clara, California; Lansing and Charlotte Michigan; Aiken, South Carolina; and York, Pennsylvania. The delivery period will be October to December 2007.

The RG33 vehicle series is designed to address today's demanding threats with demonstrated crew and vehicle survivability that is without peer. The RG33 is available with base protection against mine blast, small arms and machine gun and has been designed to accept b-kit modular armor packages that have already been successfully tested against the recently described EFP threats.

BAE Systems is working under an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract from the Marine Corps to provide 4x4 and 6x6 vehicles from the RG33 series. An initial delivery order on Jan. 26 called for two of each for Marine Corps testing, and was followed by a second delivery order Feb. 14 for 90 vehicles - 15 4x4 vehicles and 75 6x6 vehicles.

BAE Systems will deliver the mine-protected RG33 vehicle in 4x4 and 6x6 versions to meet the urgent requirements of the Nation's armed forces. The vehicle series is mission configurable for infantry carrier, ambulance, command and control, convoy escort, explosive ordnance disposal, recovery and other roles and is recoverable by another RG33. The vehicle features on-board exportable power for C4I and other mission equipment.
