The annual Rotary BAE Systems Technology Tournament, which involves over 100 schools within the Lancashire and Cumbria area, will be taking place on 3 March 2006, with around 300 teams participating at ten regional centres in the North West. The event provides over 1,000 students with an exciting opportunity both for team building and practicing communication skills, as well as problem solving in a design and technology environment. Amongst the ten regional centres are the St Annes YMCA, and Prestons Sixth Form College. Local schools competing at these two venues will be providing a total of 75 teams, involving some 300 students.
Students and teachers who have participated in previous Technology Tournaments have described the day as thought-provoking, great for teamworking and a marvellous opportunity to represent their school and measure themselves against others.
Robert Dunn from the Rotary International Organisation said: This years event promises to be bigger and better than ever before, and we are delighted to have the wholehearted support of BAE Systems. For his part, Malcolm Adams, Head of Public Affairs for BAE Systems Warton site, was equally enthusiastic about the Tournament. We are happy to seize every opportunity to excite young people about science, engineering and innovation. Rotary is to be congratulated for having firmly established this event as an annual fixture in schools calendars, and we are very pleased to be associated with it.
