The Right Worshipful Mayor of Preston, Councillor Bhikhu Patel, visited the BAE Systems site at Samlesbury to see at first hand its world leading design and manufacturing capabilities.
During his visit to the site, the Mayor was given an overview of the activities that take place at BAE Systems Samlesbury before being shown some of the sites outstanding manufacturing capabilities.
The Mayor visited the Advanced Machining Centre, which produces complex metallic components for the Typhoon, JSF and Airbus aircraft; the Advanced Composites Facility, which produces carbon fibre components and panels for various aircraft including Typhoon and JSF; and the Typhoon Assembly Facility, where he had the opportunity to see the Typhoon front fuselage take shape on one of the worlds most advanced aircraft production lines.
Following his visit to Samlesbury, the Mayor said: I was amazed to see the complex process in aircraft manufacture. The site is extensive with large hangars housing different processes. The buildings were clean, high tech and well planned.
It was obvious that BAE Systems has invested millions of pounds in their effort to be a leading company in their field. They have orders for military aircrafts which will keep employees in work for many years. It was very reassuring to know that people from Preston and surrounding districts have a great future with the company.
