BAE Systems Donates £2500 to Essex Air Ambulance

21 Dec 2006 | Ref. 387/2006

Chelmsford, United Kingdom – BAE Systems has donated £2500 to the Essex Air Ambulance following the excellent work they did in saving an employee’s life last year.

BAE Systems employee Chris Stone, of BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies (Insyte) was involved in a serious road traffic accident. The Essex Air Ambulance enabled him to be transported to hospital quickly, which no doubt contributed to his survival.

In addition to this, a group of employees from Insyte handed over a cheque for £1142.80 following a bike ride from Eastwood House, Glebe Road to the BAE Systems Test Site near South Woodham Ferrers. The course included a detour to encompass the Essex Air Ambulance helicopter base at the former Boreham Airfield, and in total amounted to approximately 40 miles.

In addition to this donation, Chris and his family are undertaking a number of their own fund raising activities.  The family were pleased to be able to present a cheque for £2078 from a recent Half Marathon undertaken by their daughter Emily, towards the ongoing cost of maintaining this vital service to the County of Essex. The service Essex Air Ambulance provides is vital, in the provision of fast and effective support to many accident victims.

Mark Brown, Charity Accountant for Essex Air Ambulance, stated “I am pleased on behalf of the Essex Air Ambulance team to thank BAE Systems for their kind donation of £2500. The emergency helicopter has been operational since June 1998 and has flown over 7,000 missions to date. With running costs in excess of £105,000 each month, Essex Air Ambulance relies solely on support from the public and local businesses. Put simply, without the people of Essex there would be no Air Ambulance. What more can we say but Thank You”.

The donation will contribute towards the costs of maintaining this vital service to the County of Essex.

BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies (Insyte) in Chelmsford employs over 400 people working on Land and Naval radar systems for UK and overseas Navies as well as Coastal Surveillance systems for the Homeland Protection market.  In addition the company focuses on Through Life Capability and Field Operations Services.
