BAE Systems, Data Link Solutions Wins Hellenic F-16 Competition for Link 16 Terminals

24 Oct 2006 | Ref. 098-2006

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command has selected Data Link Solutions (DLS) to supply Link 16 Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) Low Volume Terminals (LVT) for Hellenic Air Force F-16 aircraft. MIDS-LVT provides a secure, high-capacity, jam-resistant digital data and voice communications capability.

The $6.2M award, the Hellenic Air Force's first order for MIDS airborne terminals, makes Greece the seventh country to choose DLS for its F-16 fighter requirements. It augments a recent $34 million competitive award for MIDS terminals for use by U.S. and coalition forces.

DLS was selected for the Foreign Military Sales award on the basis of past performance on U.S. contracts, price, and schedule.

"This award continues our commitment to providing U.S. and coalition forces with interoperable Link 16 capability," David Erusha, Data Link Solutions director. "We look forward to providing this vital capability to our Greek allies."

MIDS provides real-time data communications, situational awareness and navigation, and in some cases digital voice, all in a jam-resistant, crypto-secured package. Today, various types of MIDS terminals are providing interoperable communications aboard U.S. and coalition tactical fighter aircraft, command and control aircraft, ships and ground sites.

Work will be performed in Wayne, N.J., and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
