Nashua, New Hampshire — BAE Systems engineers Drs. James Komiak and Phil Smith have been named Fellows by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
The IEEE is a technical professional association of more than 360,000 members in approximately 175 countries. The IEEE grade of Fellow is awarded by the board of directors to a member with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of IEEEs fields of interest.
IEEE recognised Dr. Komiak as a Fellow for his contributions to monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs), high power amplifiers, and transmit/receive modules. He is an Engineering Fellow in the companys Microwave Electronics Group, part of BAE Systems Information & Electronic Warfare Systems (IEWS) in Nashua, New Hampshire.
Dr. Komiak received a Ph. D. in electrical engineering from Cornell University in 1978. He has authored 65 publications and holds six patents relating to circuit theory, GaAs MMIC devices and technology, high power amplifiers, solid state apertures and RF/microwave design. He has been widely recognised in industry, government, and academia for his engineering achievements.
IEEE cited Dr. Phil Smith as a Fellow for his contributions to microwave high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs). He is the director of BAE Systems Microwave Devices & Circuits group, also based at Nashua. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in the development of microwave semiconductor devices and related circuitry.
Dr. Smith, also an IEWS Engineering Fellow, received a Ph. D. in electrical engineering from Cornell University in 1981. He has served as a principal investigator on numerous technology development contracts and has authored or co-authored more than 140 publications and presentations.
