Today, BAE Systems announced that it had become the Launch Company of SSAFA Forces Help Corporate Appeal for the Gulf. The national charity that helps serving and ex-Service men, women and their families, who are in need, will receive a 100,000 donation from the company over a two-year period. In addition, BAE Systems will, in conjunction with SSAFA Forces Help, work to promote the appeal and encourage other leading companies to lend their support.
SSAFA Forces Help Controller Major General Peter Sheppard CB, CBE said: "SSAFA Forces Help are delighted that BAE Systems is making such a commitment and we look forward to continuing and growing our relationship with them."
Hugh Colver, BAE Systems Group Communications Director said, "We are pleased to be able to announce our support for the appeal and hope that others will soon join us. We have an ongoing relationship with SSAFA Forces Help going back many years, a similar donation having been made in 1998, and we have continued to work with them ever since. At a time when there is so much uncertainty in the world charities such as SSAFA Forces Help are there to make a difference"
In 2002 BAE Systems charitable support exceeded 1 million and was ranked 15th in The Guardian's list of the Top 100 charitable givers among UK-based businesses.
