Three business units of BAE Systems have received Queen's Awards for Enterprise.
BAE Systems Avionics has been awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2002
for its continuous innovation and development in the field of Helmet Mounted Display technology.
The Helmet Mounted Display system projects flight and mission critical information onto the visor of the
pilot's helmet; enabling the pilot to stay focused on the outside world without having to look at cockpit
instrumentation. The system tracks the pilot's head position so that information relevant to wherever
the pilot is looking is displayed. This reduces the pilot's workload and is particularly important
during take off, enemy engagement and landing.
BAE Systems C4ISR Land Platform Communications business has received a Queen's Award for Enterprise in
the International Trade category.
The Award recognises the achievements made by the Blackburn, Lancashire, based team in designing and
manufacturing advanced intercom solutions for military platforms and - in particular - its performance
in the export market place.
BAE Systems Sea Systems Export Shipbuilding business has received the Queen's Award for Enterprise in
the International Trade category, in recognition of its achievement in the supply of warships to overseas markets.
Over the last decade the Company has managed contracts worth over 1bn relating to orders for frigates and Offshore
Patrol Vessels in the export market.
CEO Mike Turner said, "I am absolutely delighted that three separate businesses have received these awards - an
unprecedented success for the company and our people reflecting our determination to be innovators for a safer world"
