BAE SYSTEMS wins heli-union IHUMS contract

10 Jan 2002

BAE Systems Avionics has been awarded a contract by Heli-Union (HU) to supply, install and support the Integrated Health and Usage Monitoring Systems (IHUMS) on HU's fleet of nine AS365 helicopters. It may also be extended to cover HU's S-76 helicopters as well. The helicopters will operate in a variety of locations throughout the world.

The IHUMS is the same as that fitted to AS365 helicopters operated by both Helikopter Services, and British International, and to over 140 other helicopters in service with many operators all over the world.

The support contract will provide many benefits to HU, including a technical helpline manned by a dedicated support team to assist with the interpretation of data, regular training courses and regular assessment reviews of the system and its operation by the operator.

HU has its headquarters in Paris France, but it operates from a number of locations, carrying out off-shore activities, underslung loads and precision positioning, and ferrying of passengers.

BAE Systems Avionics is the world's most experienced supplier of Health and Usage Monitoring systems, and its systems have now flown over one million production flying hours. The systems are in operation in most geographical regions of the world, and are proven in most climatic conditions. The IHUMS product range is designed, manufactured and supported by BAE Systems, Avionics in Portsmouth, Southern England.

Notes to Editors:

Health and Usage Monitoring Systems are designed to improve the safety and reliability of helicopters by monitoring key components and systems, and warning of any potential failures, so that remedial action can be taken before such failures can effect operations.

BAE Systems IHUMS integrates:
Cockpit Voice Recorder
Flight Data Recorder
Transmission Health Monitoring
Helicopter Usage Monitoring
Rotor Health Monitoring
Rotor track and balance adjustment
Fan balance adjustment
Engine Vibration Monitoring
Engine Performance Monitoring

IHUMS can be supplied for new-build or for retrofit to existing platforms. The system includes ground-based diagnostics and is CAA/FAA and EUROCAE approved
