MILITARY AIR SOLUTIONS

WHAT WE DO

We are responsible for designing, manufacturing and supporting some of the most advanced military aircraft the world has ever seen. For instance, the Herti family of Unmanned Air Vehicles, which can soar thousands of feet in the air and take thermal images of the terrain below – all without a pilot on board. We are key players in the F-35 Lightning II project – the first (and currently only) stealthy supersonic, multi-role fighter plane.

As a unit, we have a hand in every stage of an aircraft’s development. This starts with an initial brief and carries on through a variety of design, build and test stages, before we deliver the final product. That level of involvement means we can boast a wide range of capabilities, including systems integration, manufacturing, and repair and upgrade. We have even produced a number of military training programmes. Our customer base spans more than 30 countries worldwide. And we currently employ around 14,700 people.

Some of the other amazing products we’ve helped to develop include:

Nimrod MRA4

A world renowned Maritime reconnaissance and attack aircraft.

Typhoon

The contract to produce around 620 of these highly advanced Typhoons currently stands at around £10.5 billion.

VC10s

This unique aircraft can refuel two aircraft simultaneously (in the air) and has the capacity to carry 70 tonnes of precious fuel.

Hawk

Widely recognised as the world’s most capable and cost-effective jet trainer, Hawk ensures pilots enjoy a seamless transition between basic flying training and front line combat aircraft.

As well as many more including the Harrier and the Tornado.

YOUR DEVELOPMENT

Join us on the Graduate Development Framework (GDF) scheme, and the majority of your learning will take place over a two-year programme of development. This could involve a number of placements which will provide you with both the technical knowledge and the all-round business skills you need to become either a future leader or technical expert within the unit.

If you decide to specialise in project management, those initial two years will be followed by a further three years of placements. The structure and challenging nature of these placements will ensure you gain the experience and expertise you need to pursue a rewarding career as a project manager.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

You can join in either an engineering or business role. Whichever function you decide to specialise in, you will receive all the support you need to achieve your potential. Engineering graduates will be encouraged to achieve Chartered Status. Commercial graduates can start the Commercial Foundation Programme. Procurement graduates will begin their Procurement Developing You (PDY) on completion of the GDF leading to membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS). HR graduates will be supported to attain their Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) qualification. And if you set your sights on Project Management, we offer a comprehensive suite of modular training to help you achieve your professional status through the Association of Project Management.

The majority of our graduates will be based at Warton and Samlesbury in Lancashire. However, you may be expected to do placements at Brough in the East Riding of Yorkshire, Yeovil in Somerset or occasionally at other sites in the UK including customer bases.
