Hi, my name’s Olly Musto, and for the last two years I have been taking part in BAE Systems’ Graduate Development Framework (GDF). I’m a graduate of Durham University with a BA in Sociology and Social Policy, then I moved to Durham Business School; finishing my career with an MA in Management.
I’ve been keeping a diary of my escapades so hopefully you’ll get an idea of what’s possible in a career with BAE Systems. This is the story so far…
01 Jun 07 Graduate Conference Manager.
As I type this, I am currently responsible for managing the 2007 Graduate Conference which is an annual event all GDF members attend. I attended the conference in 2006, along with my intake, and was really inspired by the level of individuals who attended and presented; ranging from the Chief Executive to senior members of the armed forces – a real privilege.

01 Feb 07 GDF Communications Coordinator.
While working as GDF Communications Co-ordinator, I was responsible for conducting research across all UK BAE Systems Business Units, which despite being a further challenge was also equally as great an opportunity. From the word ‘go’ there was no doubt that this role suited me down to the ground, which I was delighted to see become demonstrable through the work I was delivering.

01 Nov 06 Flagship Command Management and Leadership Course.
In November, myself, along with 15 other graduates took part in a Royal Navy Command Management and Leadership Course. The course was held at HMS Collinwood and consisted of 10 days of intensive classroom lecturing and rigorously-assessed presentations and outdoor practical exercises.
