Accessibility Information

BAE SYSTEMS ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT

A large number of internet users with impairments can find websites difficult or even impossible to use because of the way they have been designed.

BAE Systems recognises the importance of complying with accessibility standards.  All the page templates on this website comply with conformance level Double-A of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, including all Priority 1 and Priority 2 checkpoints defined in the Guidelines as a minimum requirement.

The user can now change the text size through the browser and safely impose their own colour preferences.

We are making every effort to ensure that we don't exclude any users. For example:

  • We try to use clear and simple language
  • We use alternative text for images that convey information
  • The XHTML we produce conforms to the standard: XHTML 1.0 Transitional
  • We test the colours we use in the design for contrast.

We also try to publish all our text content as accessible XHTML rather than in other formats such as PDF. Where we do publish PDFs or other formats our policy is to make them as accessible as we can.

NAVIGATING THIS WEBSITE

To navigate through this website, please use the top menu and the menu on the left hand side of the page. If you are using a screen reader, you can use the access key alt - M (press enter). This will take you to the main menu, and from there you can use the tab key to navigate through the links.

STYLE SHEETS

This site uses Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for visual layout. If your browser supports it, stylesheets can be disabled or over-ridden to customise the appearance of the website, to your preference.

FONT SIZE

Users can change the font size of this website to their preference through the browser. In Internet Explorer, select View, then Text Size, and then your preferred size. In Netscape select View, then Text Zoom, and then your preferred percentage size. In Firefox, select View, then Zoom, then Zoom In.

LINKS

We have worked hard to ensure that our links are meaningful, and some links are explained in greater detail by using a title attribute.

SCRIPTING

JavaScript is used on the site to improve usability. All pages and processes are still accessible and usable if JavaScript is disabled or unavailable.

IFRAMES

Iframes have been used sparingly to bring in functionality that is not hosted as part of the site itself.  Where they have been used, the correct attributes have been implemented to ensure they are as navigable as possible for all users.

BROWSERS

This website is built to XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS 2.0 standards.

This website will function and look as intended in browsers that support these standards. The most common of these are;

  • Firefox 1.5 +
  • Internet Explorer 6.0+

If you do not have one of these browsers installed or are unable to upgrade, you may find the website easier to use by disabling CSS altogether - please see your browser’s help documentation for further information.
