Harrier

Harrier

BAE Systems is the outstandingly successful successor to many of the most technologically advanced and respected aircraft and defence electronics companies in the world.

These include Marconi; the first commercial company devoted to developing and using radio; deHavilland, manufacturers of the world’s first commercial jet airliner; BAC, co-manufacturer of Concorde; and Supermarine, manufacturers of the famous Spitfire.

We were formed in 1999 from the merger of British Aerospace (BAe) with Marconi Electronic Systems. BAe, in turn, dates back to the merger in 1977 of British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) and Hawker Siddeley Aviation. Through ties like these, we carry the legacy of some 20 famous British aircraft firms, and have been involved in some of the most celebrated projects in the history of aviation and technology.

Think of Concorde, the Type 45 Destroyer air defence ship, our Titan Bridging Vehicle, the Harrier vertical / short-takeoff-and-landing fighter, and you have just four reasons out of many for the great pride in everything we’ve achieved. So far…
