OUR COMPANY HISTORY
AN OUTSTANDING RECORD OF PERFORMANCE
BAE Systems is the successor to some of the world's greatest technologies and inventions including radio, the Holland 1 submarine, the Lee Enfield rifle, the WWII Spitfire and the Lancaster aircraft, the BAC/Aerospatiale Concorde, Harrier and the Challenger tank.
We were formed in 1999 from the merger of British Aerospace (BAe) with Marconi Electronic Systems, and carry the legacy of dozens of famous companies including Vickers, Ferranti, AVRO, Yarrow, English Electric and Tracor. Our roots can actually be traced back as far as 1560 with the establishment of the Royal Gunpowder Factory!
Our business groups are continuing their proud heritage. To learn more about the unrivalled and outstanding history of our organisation visit baesystems.com/aboutus/heritage.
