Sarah Pullen - Warton
Crew Systems Engineer
Sara Pullen, a Crew Systems Engineer at Warton was announced as the 2005 Young Woman Engineer of the Year. Sara joined the company through the modern apprenticeship scheme in 1997. Over the next 12 months she will be an ambassador for women in engineering and will get the opportunity to take part in both local and national events. She has already appeared on BBC News 24 and local radio, speaking about the need to encourage more women to enter the profession.
On receiving this prestigious award Sara said: 'I'm both surprised and delighted to be named "Young Woman Engineer of the Year". It's an important competition that has been going on for nearly 30 years and it feels good to be following in the footsteps of previous BAE Systems winners. 'The other women nominated came from a range of organisations including the Army and Royal Mail, which I think sends a good message about the diversity of engineering.' Simon Howison, Group Engineering Director, Air Systems said: 'I'm delighted to hear about Sara's award.
It's great news, not just for BAE Systems but for the Engineering profession in general. I think Sara will have a lot to bring to the role of Young Woman Engineer of the Year in terms of her career to date and her enthusiasm for engineering.' At the ceremony which was sponsored by the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (IIE) Sara was presented with her award by Sir Digby Jones, Director-General CBI.
