Leadership Conferences

Each year the members of all E&IS leadership development programs—Finance, Engineering, Human Resources, and Operations—go offsite for an intensive leadership training. Currently, the LDC is a three-year program that coincides with participants' rotations, and each year focuses on developing different elements of leadership. Key learnings from the LDC are built upon at the following years' conferences.

Teamwork/Personal Effectiveness — LDC 1   First-year participants focus on identifying and understanding the qualities of high-performing teams and engage in activities that explore their own personal effectiveness as team members. Participants are given an introduction to BAE Systems strategies, values and vision as well as exposure to the big picture of BAE Systems and how they contribute to the business unit.

Personal Development — LDC 2   The focus for the second year is on personal development as an effective team leader, as well as on group dynamics; e.g., how a team leader can help support the emotional intelligence of the group. Individual and group behavior is highlighted. A strong focus is placed on how the individual works in teams and groups and how personal behavior affects the team and shapes the work environment.

Leadership Development — LDC 3   The third year focuses on situational leadership and conflict management. The curriculum provides a unique practice field for participants to expand their personal awareness and develop skills as effective leaders, in preparation for completion of the program and transitioning into their future careers at BAE Systems. The agenda provides each third-year participant an opportunity to lead a group activity and receive individual feedback from peers, coaches, and facilitators.

LDC Design varies by site. In 2007 the plan is to offer a single program for all participants. The above program breakout is an example only.
