The Advanced Technology Centre delivers the frontline in technology innovation, acquisition, development and insertion for BAE Systems and its joint venture organisations. The service offering of the ATC provides for the development and creation of future technology capability over a broad spectrum of disciplines. Its services, capabilities and resources are applied throughout the product lifecycle, supporting long term speculative research through to applied product development.
With an employee base of world-class scientists, technicians and researchers, the ATC has a proven history of delivering innovative technology and providing cutting edge solutions to the business. Long term strategic capability development to support the future growth and technological positioning of BAE Systems, is addressed by the ATC through the instigation and pursuit of areas of key importance to future defence requirements.
In addition to supporting BAE Systems and its Joint Venture organisations in the achievement of tactical and strategic technology objectives, the ATC has a vast network of relationships with external organisations including the UK Ministry of Defence, US Department of Defense, European Space Agency, Universities and other research and product organisations.
These activity programmes involve multi-disciplinary teams drawn from across the ATC and key business units to ensure the technologies and products developed support current and future business growth. The programmes currently instigated cover areas such as Micro and Nano technologies, Autonomous Systems, Battlespace Information and Knowledge, BioFutures and Directed Energy Warfare. In addition, an Underpinning Technology programme addressing generic technologies provides a solid basis for future investment planning.
Our core skills cover an extensive range of disciplines from Sensors and Communications to Autonomy and Human Factors. Future technologies under development within academia and other research institutes are also carefully monitored and evaluated by the ATC to assess the potential impact and exploitation to BAE Systems. As well as developing new technologies and capabilities, the ATC is able to provide key resources, skills and knowledge to business units, joint ventures and external customers.
