Caiman Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP)

Caiman Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP)

We provide armor capabilities for several medium tactical vehicles, including two Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) variants, the Caiman and the RG33, and the LSAC and LTAS cabs for the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) program.

Caiman MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protection) – Cab and appliqué armor

The Caiman Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle is based on the ultra-reliable Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) platform and the combat-proven Low Signature Armored Cab (LSAC). Caiman incorporates the demonstrated performance of these components into a survivable, well protected vehicle designed to defeat current and emerging threats. The cab uses a V-hull and proprietary technology to both divert and absorb the blast and fragments associated with explosives. BAE Systems Cincinnati is responsible for development and armor integration for Caiman MRAP cabs, which also includes doors with door assist systems and reinforcements to the chassis. The vehicle is completed at BAE Systems’ facility in Sealy, TX. BAE Systems M&PS completed the delivery of the first order of 1,170 Caiman MRAP vehicles one week ahead of schedule. The company is currently producing an additional 1,692 Caimans under an additional contract. These vehicles will have additional levels of threat protection.

LSAC (Low Signature Armored Cab) – Kit

Mobility & Protection Systems designs and manufactures the armor components for the Low Signature Armored Cab (LSAC) for the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV), adding ballistic and mine blast protection in a purpose-built cab that can be interchanged with a standard FMTV cab in 8 hours. The LSAC cab can provide crew protection from assault rifle rounds, land mines and artillery fragments, yet still retain C-130 transportability.

LTAS (Long Term Armor Strategy)

BAE Systems passed testing on a new cab designed for the FMTVs that meets the demanding threshold and objective levels of performance in response to the Army’s Long Term Army Strategy requirements for A & B kits.
